What changes have been made to the 2022 College Ceremony?

As you are likely already aware, after much deliberation it was decided that the 2022 Perth ANZCA Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM), FPM Symposium and Emerging Leaders Conference (ELC) will proceed as virtual events. Further discussions regarding the College Ceremony were required and a decision has since been made to postpone this year’s ceremony to 2023.

Why was it decided to postpone the ceremony to 2023?

We recognise the College Ceremony is an important and highly regarded part of the ASM and this was a difficult decision and certainly one not made lightly. This is very disappointing for us all including ANZCA President, Dr Vanessa Beavis and FPM Dean, Associate Professor Michael Vagg, who were looking forward to officially welcoming you into fellowship. Everyone believes that you deserve the opportunity to celebrate this momentous occasion in-person with your family, friends and peers when it is safe to do so and importantly that your achievements after years of hard work are recognised by the wider college community.

How will these changes affect me and am I required to do anything?

If you had already registered to present at the 2022 College Ceremony you will have received a communication advising what these changes mean for you. If you had registered to present in-person as a new fellow we will honour the virtual new fellow registration fee for this year and take the liberty of transferring your registration across to a virtual registration. If you have already registered as a virtual new fellow for 2022, no further action will be required from you either.

Will I be eligible to present at the 2023 College Ceremony?

If you had already registered to present as a new fellow at this year’s College Ceremony, you will automatically be eligible to present in 2023, regardless of whether it has been more than two years since you received your fellowship.

What will the 2023 College Ceremony look like?

We are optimistic we’ll be able to deliver an in-person College Ceremony at the 2023 ASM in Sydney and know for certain it will be a celebration to remember. It will take some time for us to work through the finer details of what the ceremony will look like next year and we will be sure to share our plans with you when they completed.
