Dear event speakers, facilitators and delegates,
We are aware that you are likely considering the impact of coronavirus (COVID-19) on ANZCA and FPM, including our face-to-face gatherings, continuing professional development, training and examination requirements in coming months, and as clinicians, how to manage the plethora of information that you will be receiving.
We have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Perth Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) from 1-5 May as well as the preceding Emerging Leaders Conference, FPM Symposium and Perioperative Medicine SIG Meeting.
The risks of spreading the infection amongst a large number of delegates at an ASM and satellite meetings and the subsequent lengthy quarantine period creates an unacceptable risk to the health systems in both countries. More and more hospitals and networks require our fellows and trainees to stay in hospitals to help manage the outbreak and care for our communities.
ANZCA’s in-house events team is now working on providing information to all those who had registered for the ASM and the satellite events and have prepared a series of frequently asked questions to provide you with accurate information.
Those who have already registered will receive further correspondence along with information on the process of refunds for all meetings. We do ask for your patience as we work through the complexities of cancelling the meetings and please be assured that our professional team has a comprehensive and detailed plan to manage all contingencies. In addition to this communication, the events team will also be contacting, over the next weeks, all people involved with the meetings, ranging from our presenters though to our suppliers.
The best way to make contact with the ANZCA in-house events team at present is to email email@example.com
I would like to acknowledge the enormous amount of work undertaken by the Perth Regional Organising Committee and the disappointment that they must be feeling. This is also true for the organisers of the Emerging Leaders Conference, the FPM Symposium and the Perioperative SIG meeting. Know that your work is greatly valued.
Thank you all for your understanding during what is a challenging time.
